Yesterday the market for cheese and butter remained quiet from our side. We see both buyers and sellers patiently waiting for the other side to move. Sellers have some product to sell but are in no hurry to offer, buyers also claim to have plenty of time and so we are left with a Mexican standoff. It feels like that who moves first sets the direction for the market. And as nobody wanted to take the lead, the market remained quiet. Only powders showed a bit of action. 

With no newsworthy events the market had little information to give an impulse to the market. Creamprices today traded again in line with last week. We hear some cheap loads of cream appeared at the end of the day and traded at € 6800 while in the moring we heard sales of cream done at € 7050 still. SMC prices also corrected down a bit at the end of the day, taking a bit of heat out of the market. Raw milk does remain expensive with reported prices between 48 and 51ct in west eu.

With a to of partners leaving Dubai after three days at the Gulfood we see that most partners are in no mood to trade. Those who went to Dubai to find answers about the outlook for the dairy market come back with just as many questions as they left with. We therefore think today will be a quiet trading day. We see that for both butter and cheese both buyers and sellers weren't eager to give many firm offers and bids. We keep the Friday update short and simple, and this is where we see the market open:

Butter offers

  • 132mt of Irish winter lactic FCA Ireland at € 5200
  • 44mt of German lactic FCA Germany at € 5450
  • 44mt of Polish Sweet cream butter at € 5800
  • 22mt of Polish Lactic butter at € 5350

Cheese offers:

  • Mozzarella for Q1 at € 3800
  • Cheddar curd for November / December at € 3850

    Our Long View Before Our Long Break

    Last week the market found a bit of stability. After lower trades on cheese, the cheese market traded slowly up, although a real rally remains absent. Butter prices did dip a bit further, although at the start of this week we see some strength on the back end of the curve. And on powder, our bullish feeling just doesn't go away — and now we can find some confirmation in the market as well.
