This week started with a continuation of the stable market of last week. We traded a bit of butter at the same price as on Friday (€ 4800,- for Friesland Butter) and a bit of cheese in the same price range at € 3170 for the strip from March until July. It seems most of our partners want to wait and see until they make a new move. We do see that in all three markets we broker that sellers are more actively looking for buyers, buyers just seem to wait for information.

Looking at the latest numbers on milk supply, we see that the French milk collection is getting better. The deficit with last year is now smaller than 1% and it seems likely that the French milk peak will come in roughly at the same volumes as last year. Germany continues to show an increase of more than 2% compared to the year before.

We expect to see a bit more activity today when we will see how prices for liquids will develop. At the end of last week, prices for cream and SMC seemed to be recovering a bit of strength, but are we seeing a reversal or just a small rally at the end of the week? The pattern in the three weeks before suggests that we might see a bit more pressure today.
