Yesterday the market continued trading in the lower direction, but the pace feels a bit more moderate. It might be because buyers felt that markets can rise quickly again, and sellers know that they can't deny the fact that prices will cool off as long as milk production keeps showing plusses.
The biggest pressure still comes from Ireland. The Irish farmers are facing extremely good weather and we hear that most Irish farmers will milk as long as they can in 2022. This might have an effect on the start of their season. So we would be cautious in expecting the Irish to be around all winter. Most pressure from Ireland seems to be on butter, but the smp market and the markets for cheddar are also feeling some pressure.
Looking at the rest of Europe we see a much more balanced picture. German products are not plenty around, and in Poland, all product is still trading at a premium. Today we traded Polish butter at € 6200,- compared to Irish butter at € 5700. For high protein SMP we also keep hearing much higher sales from Poland. In the west of Europe, it seems that the Dutch and the French are the weakest brothers on the market. We see a bit more Dutch cheese (gouda and edam) and Dutch butter available. From France, it seems to be the french powder market that is pulling the market a bit down.
